In reply to Cindi Sasamura Moore.
I used smoked sausage and loved it!
]]>Hi Shar, sorry for the late reply. Either the crockpot or instant pot should work fine if they’re both 6 quarts.
I considered a serving about 1/2 to 1 cup in volume to go on top of a bowl of rice. If you’re eating without rice, you’ll get less servings.
To answer your other question, you could also substitute the rice and do hot dogs, fries, or baked potatoes as well! You can also mix chili with melted cheese (something like Tex-mex queso) and make a nacho dip. Hope that helps!
]]>Have you tried a Mexican market. Sometimes they carry it. I live in California and I buy Silva brand Portuguese sausage aka linguisa. Look for labels that say linguisa. I also saw at Walmart.com

Hoping it turns out a crowd pleaser. I enjoyed Zippys in Las Vegas, NV. It’s the first stateside zippys:)
Aside from rice, what other toppings woukd you recommend?
]]>Aw, thanks so much Angela! Glad it can bring back good memories. Good tip on the immersion blender too!
]]>Absolutely fantastic, Kristen. You totally knocked it out of the park — I was back at the Zippy’s on Kapahulu, but in my own kitchen! I made the recipe exactly as directed, except that I did decide to use my immersion blender for just a couple of little zaps at the end to increase the creaminess factor, and it totally worked! Now, if I could just find a good source for Portuguese sausage here locally in St. Louis rather than having to order it online and pay as much in shipping as I do for the products, LOL. (Although I adore Portuguese sausage, so it’s worth it!)
]]>Absolutely you can omit the beans! No need to adjust the liquid.
]]>This recipe is amazing! my question is can you make this with no beans? do I need to adjust the liquid at all? Both my kids love Zippy’s chili being born and raised in Hawaii, but they like the no beans version
]]>Around 8 cups – I would say served over rice it can serve 8-10 adults.
